About 3G New York
Mission Statement
The mission of 3GNY is to serve as a living link between the history of the Holocaust and today.
Our aims are threefold:
1. Education --
To act, as the last living link to survivors, on the mandate handed down to
us to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust, telling the story of our
families, survivors and victims.
2. Action --
To use our personal connection to the Holocaust to be active in fighting
intolerance, no matter who or where the victims.
3. Reflection --
To provide a forum for grandchildren of Holocaust survivors to meet, connect
and express ideas with one another.
Message from the director
We, the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, come from diverse backgrounds and work in various fields, but we all share a unique family history. We are also the last living link to Holocaust survivors. It is only through us that future generations will know the actual stories of our grandparents’ survival and the unimaginable losses of that generation.
What will we tell them? How do we ensure that our grandparents’ stories of loss, survival and hope are remembered? What is our legacy and how do we articulate it?
By forming 3GNY, we sought to create a forum – a community – for grandchildren of Holocaust survivors where together we could answer these questions.
We have begun to form that community since our first meeting in February, 2005. We’ve held discussions, shared family stories, learned about each other and ourselves and found common ground. In addition, we’ve brought in outside speakers, screened several documentaries and formed a steering committee.
Ultimately, our coming together is about more than socializing. It is to decide the best ways of shaping and passing on the legacies of our grandparents and parents. As grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, it is vital we use our personal connection to bring to consciousness the realities and lessons of the Holocaust.
Best Regards,
Daniel Brooks
